Dynamic Positioning System DP - Maintaining Position and Course
DP system, or dynamic positioning system, is a highly integrated ship control system that enables ships to maintain preset positions and courses in various marine environments by precisely controlling the ship's propellers, and to remain stable even in harsh marine conditions.
Working Principle
DP system monitors the position and heading of the ship in real time through measurement systems (such as GPS, gyrocompass, attitude sensor, etc.), and inputs these data into the control system.
The control system calculates the required control force based on the deviation between the preset target position and the current position,as well as environmental external forces (such as wind, waves, currents, etc.), and adjusts the thrust or direction of the propeller through the execution system (including propellers, rudders and other power mechanisms) to offset environmental external forces and keep the ship in the predetermined position.
