Azimuth propeller propulsion system
Also known as azimuth propeller propeller or Z-shaped propeller, it is a ship propulsion system that integrates propulsion and steering functions.
Principle
The output power of the ship's main engine or electric motor is transmitted to the vertical shaft through the horizontal first-stage bevel gear on the top of the pod, and the vertical shaft then transmits the output power to the horizontal second-stage bevel gear at the bottom of the pod, and finally to the propeller through the horizontal shaft on the gear, forming a Z-shaped transmission system.
The propulsion device realizes 360° horizontal rotation function by driving the worm gear to rotate through a hydraulic pump.
Advantages
1. Improve maneuverability and flexibility: The full-rotation rudder propeller propulsion system can convert all the propeller thrust into the equivalent of rudder force, with good maneuverability and flexible steering.
2. Shock reduction and noise reduction: The compact structure and high manufacturing and installation precision significantly reduce the vibration and noise of the ship.
3. Easy maintenance: It can be assembled as a whole in the workshop without underwater operations, and installation and maintenance are very convenient.
Disadvantages
1. Low efficiency: Due to the large losses caused by the transmission mechanism and the large hub diameter, the efficiency of the full-rotation rudder propulsion system is generally low.
2. High cost: The structure is complex, the cost is high, and it is easy to damage.
