Introduction to water jet propulsion
The water jet propulsion uses a water pump as a power source to suck water from the bottom hole of the ship, and discharges the water from the rear of the ship through the side pipe, and propels the ship by the reaction force of the water. It can realize ship steering operations, forward/reverse operations, and improve the control reaction speed. The steering function can also be achieved by changing the direction of the nozzle.
Advantages:
1. The propulsion efficiency is higher than that of the propeller.
2. The higher the speed, the less likely it is to cavitate, so it is very suitable for high-speed propulsion.
3. The underwater radiation noise is much lower than that of the propeller.
4. The power density is high and the structure is compact. Under the premise of the same propulsion power, its nominal diameter is significantly smaller than that of the propeller.
5. The hull equipped with the stern water jet propulsion has excellent maneuverability, and its turning radius and emergency stopping distance are much smaller than those of the propeller propulsion of the same scale.
6. The stern water jet propulsion is suitable for shallow water navigation.
Disadvantages:
Hydraulic design is difficult, manufacturing cost is high, and the price is expensive
